GLOBALIZATION

Carlos Lobo
Rodolfo Azofeifa
Silvia Aguirre

The globalization process has influence on different spheres of human activity, increasing more and more knowledge about three actions and processes: cultural, social and economic, those by means of models are based on analysis of the historical development society.

The country has its own identity, language or social organizations differentiating each other thereby creating their own culture, the people need for information on exact time and technology used by means of communication influence the globalization of culture of the nation (cultural globalization, 2008), as well as in particular social influences at work and family life by the need of new potential for the development and creation of wealth ("the social dimension of globalization", April 14, 2003) which leads economic level to different countries to open their markets to achieve a better or equated global competition ("H encyclopedia", understanding the economic globalization, 2008).

The adaptation easy and understanding of other cultures result in a mixture of national and international culture relegating their own identity in many cases to background and contribute in other ways to extend knowledge in art, ideas, techniques, and habits (cultural globalization, 2008) which causes social opportunities and varied job impacting the level of family life ("the social dimension of globalization", April 14, 2003) otherwise, in the economy area to create opportunities for growth in other sectors that were restricted State monopolies are released ("H encyclopedia", understanding the economic globalization, 2008).

Actually increasingly weaves a greater interdependence between countries by creating a cultural, social and economic globalization that bring advantages as support each other more quickly in different aspects with strengths immediate real time of each nation and disadvantages as the danger of irregular exchanges causing economic and social chaos or losing identity giving irregular wealth to each country. Globalization is a movement in history that must provide positive and balanced opportunities its participants in all areas without minimizing them.

BLIND SIDE MOVE

The author or director in each film wants to leave a clear message according to his purpose, some are historic, other science fiction or fantasy and there are also those that are based on real life, "The blind side" is one of them, the protagonist shows us in his 17 years old as there is a before and an after, as an isolated event arrives to improve their future; the young "Big Mike" as it is called, first shows us a homeless adolescent environment of extreme poverty, and then, an economic and emotional change provided by stable tutors.

A black boy, possibly two meters in height, quite large and thick with a pair of old shoes, shorts pants and t-shirt blue pole type, he is a homeless teenager and without any money, since childhood he was separated from his mother junkie and he was taken to different adoption places, where according to his mother: "always he escapes to go to find her and take care of it", the difference of other neighborhood guys and Big Mike is not only his body, but also for how to deal with the problems surrounding, this idea taught by his mother is "close the eyes" while bad happens because once again when open the eyes the bad will be gone, these situations of risk had developed in him a great instinct protection to others in contrast his degree and IQ was very low Big Mike was considered by the high school teachers as a stupid; He lived for a time with a mechanic and his family until that mechanic’s wife tired of maintaining him threw him to the street where he went hunger and cold.

Big Mike's life began to change since it comes to "Wingate Christian School", there was a transition period where teachers and students as well as other institutions questioned him, but a very cold night was really his life changed, where he met Mrs. Leigh Anne Tuohy, she saw him walking with his usual clothing, exposed to the cold so she led him to her house to spend than assumed would be a night, then she invites him to spend Thanksgiving Day lunching with them, and gradually grew a sincere family relationship, the family Tuohy saw that Michael Oher is not stupid, he has some difficulty learning but with help, effort and appropriate motivation overcomes obstacles, in this process not only there are changes in Mike but also in Mrs. Leigh and her family, they began to see the surface world around them with values often far away from the reality that under a supposed Christian life are intended to help others but not interact with them, Michael supported by their tutors found home, food, and educational improvement, he was also highlighted in American football, the instinct family protection helps him to understand that he is to protect his teammates as if they were his family and as a result he is one of the best players, his lock makes him one of the most sought by the different universities, giving him the opportunity to choose where to go to play.

Education which leaves the spectator is relief, satisfaction and hope in a world that shows us only the negative with overwhelming consequences for humans, there are people with sincere love to help others who need it, that we cannot blind us by stereotypes that have been created by newscasts and make us think that if you don’t show intelligence may not succeed “el que nace para maceta del corredor no pasa”; so, What is it true?. Sometimes we do not know what we are doing or what we do, but if we have courage and honor to move forward soon we'll see significant results that we cannot imagined, especially when we have people who care for our blind side, the side that I cannot see but they can see it.

DEBATE

In different parts of the world is being discussed about the legalization of drugs this topic has expressed different opinions, people have been presenting arguments valid for legalization among the various arguments set out three to strengthen this need approval to mitigate the terrible consequences that currently face illegal approach; the first point is wasteful and lucrative business that generates the black market then no quality controls as homogeneous doses and finally the disastrous between drug traffickers and political power alliances (Juan Carlos Hidalgo, "Ten reasons to legalize drugs", April 2, 2003).
Today the prohibition of drugs makes a stronger black market the drug cartels are enriched illegally with large amounts of money according to the United Nations: "drug trafficking generates $ 400,000 annual million which represents 8% of world trade" this money represent an irresistible temptation for criminals in the world and the present ban on drugs is not obstruction for this growing market, the current black market weakens to legalize drugs also decreases social problems such as the drugs sale to children and teenagers it neutralizes abuse and labor enslavement of poor economic and income generated would be regulated by a Comptroller national or similar entity.

The illegality of drugs raises handling questionable manufacture and proper handling substances the lack of an adequate quality control of drugs and sales of doses are not standardized mortality by poison or overdose are very high 80% of drug-related deaths are due to lack of access to standardized doses (Cato Institute, James Ostrowski), the legalization of drugs requires manufacturer to perform a transport and marketing in an economy with global health standards regulated by a Government Ministry with knowledge in physical, psychological, and emotional health.

The news on television and newspapers have shown as drug traffickers groups influencing different governmental, corruption is a fact, traffickers come to bribe extort or buy authorities such as police officers, customs officers, judges, all kinds of authorities that may be obstacles to the illegal drug market , creating an image of the Government authorities of distrust in the general population; the legalization of drugs minimizes these alliances because it is not necessary to pay money to sneak by regular business processes also the level of population in prison for this type of corrupt people will decrease, as well as police abuse, confiscation, and wrong searches of property.

Therefore, the legalization of drugs brings Nations apart from the arguments put forward earlier a learning live with drugs as it has been done with other substances such as alcohol and tobacco, this social learning is valuable to be able to reduce and internalize negative effects resulting from the use and abuse of drugs, we must know the behaviors and social attitudes needed to properly tackle the problems of addiction and consumption of those substances not to follow the self-destructive way in which we are the modern prohibition.

Weapons of mass destruction

CARLOS LOBO, DANIEL GONZALEZ, ENGLISH IV
The countries that have most quantity weapons of mass destruction are thinking to control the world, because this kind of weapons has effect over the people, in other hand, “in United States, in 1996 a referendum was done, but in this case the referendum reflected the overwhelming consensus of the senate this possibility of domestic terrorism including chemical nuclear or biological weapons are a significant thread to United States national security.”( “Defending the United States against weapons of mass destruction”); the last note explains that not all the people are concern about have weapons of mass destruction, because they understand how the danger increases for themselves and all the countries Another negative consequence is the amount of money needed to build a weapon, this money must be taken of the national budget, for example, the United States by 2011 quoted 3.1 billion dollars for different activities of security with weapons of mass destruction Weapons of mass destruction have been created in order to protect or defend themselves from attacks enemies,(“Report Cites U.S. budget increase for WMD Security”, March 11, 2010) but more that are generating insecurity, fear and exaggerated spending money in building them, if we take this money to buy food or to solve environmental problems we could minimize world hunger and global warming.

Globalization of Diseaes

CARLOS LOBO-DANIEL GONZALEZ, English IV
Modern means of transport enable people to travel around the world; therefore diseases passed from one side to another faster and easier also, examples of this are AIDS/HIV, The West Nile Virus, and H1N1 that have spread throughout the world. According to the World Health Organization: “As of 2004, an estimated 1,039,000 to 1,185,000 persons in the United States were living with HIV/AIDS, and an estimated 39.5 million people worldwide are living with HIV West Nile Virus” (Globalization and Diseases, June 2010); The West Nile Virus consists in a flavivirus commonly found in Africa, West Asia, and the middle East (Health topics A-2, 2010), in USA, over 15,000 people have tested positive for WNV infection (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), but away this virus can infect humans, birds, mosquitoes, horses, and some other mammals, Finally in Costa Rica the swine flu, or H1N1 has reached 60 people and number of suspects continues to rise, says Dr. Maria Luisa Avila, Minister of public health. The quick and easy transmission of diseases is one of the negative points that we see in the world globalization, Therefore, the hygiene in every home and every person should be strengthened to not become infected and to be free from diseases, we must to know and apply health protocols established by the ministries in charge of take care our health.

Ethnic Conflicts

In many countries and many periods a person’s ethnic identity has had profound consequences for his or her physical safety status, and economic prospects. Violent confrontation along ethnic lines is the most apparent form of ethnic conflict, and it recently has claimed lives in such diverse places throughout the world. The three most terrible ethnic conflicts have been the conflict in Rwanda, the Arab-Israeli crisis, and The Holocaust during World War II.

One important ethnic conflict was the Hutu and the Tutsi conflict in Rwanda. There are two major ethnic groups in this Africa country: The Hutu and the Tutsi. When the country was colonized by the Belgians in 1916 they claimed that the Tutsi were superior to the Hutu based on the idea that their skins were lighter and their features more European. As a result, The Hutus suffered years of repression by the Tutsi. In 1994, the Hutus took revenge. Tutsi people were slaughtered, hunted out of their homes, killed with guns or machetes and left to die on the road by unofficial militia group called the Interahamwe (“thouse who attack together”) and Hutu civilians were forced to murder their neighbors and children were not spared in an insane effort to wipe out the next Tutsi generation. Over 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the space of 100 days.

Also, in the Middle East there is the territorial conflict between Arabs and Jews that has lasted for more than a century, both sides have different attitudes on mutual recognition of borders, security, Israeli settlements, freedom of Palestinian movement and the law relating to refugees,
(Wikipedia,Israeli–Palestinian conflict) , very violent clashes which real reason according to the video presented at Yotube, (the true story of the Palestinian Arab Jewish conflict), is: "the destruction of the Jewish people”, this conflict is another example of hatred, insecurity, and wickedness of men.

But the greater massacre caused against humanity was the Holocaust in the second world war, where Adolf Hitler the leader of the Nazis sought to give "final solution of the Jewish problem" (Endlösung der Judenfrage); some statistics estimate that 5.6 6.1 million Jews were killed, apart from other groups such as civil Slavs, prisoners of war, political dissidents, Roma, disabled, homosexuals, and Jehovah's witnesses, this conflict has left a shameful scar in the modern world of human superiority irrational behavior.

Ethnic conflicts such as in Rwanda, The Arab-Israeli crisis, and The Holocaust during World War II triggered the worst feelings a human being can have. Any country or society can go through such terrors. Different religion, race, and beliefs are not good reasons to kill each other. It depends on new generations not to repeat the terrible crimes against humanity committed in different times and places.

Factors of poverty

From an economic perspective of poverty is caused by several factors, one factor is the level of academic education received who is not allowed to find better jobs which calls for a minimum of fifth year approved school; for example, "required clerk, requirements: Bachelor's degree , one year of experience clerk or similar, Excel skills at the intermediate level " (employment.com to company,2010) where a big group don't have these requirements due to abandon early studying "however was identified that causes that most affect the abandonment of the institution is the socio-economic", (The drop in Costa Rica: a study of the causes and consequences in an educational institution, 1996). Another factor is the defeatism that exists in people living in an environment of pity and co-dependence of governmental and private institutions, they say: “They have to help me I cannot do it”, noted it in interviews that do newscasts to needy people, the most demanding help from others and they are waiting without doing anything else which brings us to a third factor laziness and conformism two concepts that together are an obstacle in the overcoming of the individual, when the people are not try to achieve goals, dreams or jobs, raises finding excuses to justify the loitering or lack of healthy ambition and they are falling into the conformism; there are more factors to considered, but the lack of academic studies, the defeatism and the vagrancy in an individual or group of persons is synonymous with economic poverty, let us be even better each day, and we don’t take it these attitudes.

Immigrant not enemy

Each immigrant makes a positive contribution to the country where he, she or they choose to live. These people need to survive in the new country that has like household and this feeling makes them strong and creative people. Costa Rica has several examples of immigrants who contributed positively to the country; in the 1980’s many people coming from Chile arrived our country to live, one of them was architect Bruno Stagno who is living with his family in Escazú, he developed the tropical architecture studies rescuing "solutions and experiences raised by grandparents to protect the climate", (Bruno Stagno, architecture for a latitude, 1997). Mr. Stagno, being an immigrant founded "the school of tropical architecture" introducing a new vision in the design of banks, factories, and houses. Its constructive projects give us beauty and strengthen Costa Rican culture. This architect is an example of the advantages that immigrants can bring to arrive as outsiders to a country; they can give positive growth for themselves and for the country where they live.
